2017 Season – That’s a Wrap

Greenbush, Minnesota – (March 9, 2017) With the 55th Annual Canadian Power Toboggan Championships in the books, the season has come to an end for the Wahl Bros. Racing team. Both Dustin and Jordan competed at last weekend’s race in Beausejour, Manitoba; at their “home” track, only two hours from Greenbush.

One of the first off the line in Friday’s first qualifying heat, the #747 was running a tight line through corner one until the machine high-sided. Thankfully Jordan was able to walk away from the incident uninjured and return to racing the next day. Dustin went on to finish eighth in the night’s final after over a month off recovering from a concussion.

“This season was a building season. We were working with a brand new motor package and I was coming off a shoulder injury, so we had to change quite a few things. Now I feel good and think we have a good motor package, we just didn’t really get the results we wanted. We had a lot of little problems and bad luck all season that we couldn’t get rid of but now we have a good base to build on,” said Jordan.

With Saturday came the final round of TLR Cup Tour action. Jordan entered the 15-lap final as the #2 qualifier, with Dustin qualifying sixth. Pulling a freaky fast start, the #747 quickly asserted the lead while Dustin battled it out mid-pack. Having led all but two laps, Jordan finished with a close second and the #74 Polaris crossed the line sixth. With the final TLR race completed, Jordan finished sixth in points and Dustin moved into the ninth position.

“This season was definitely a struggle. The year started out so well with the sleds having a lot of speed, but then it took a turn for the worse with my crash qualifying for the world championship. Thankfully I feel good now and was very happy to be able to finish the year off in Beausejour with no issues. After missing most of the season and not being able to test, it leaves a lot of excitement for the future,” said Dustin.

Warm weather on Sunday provided a challenge as the team worked to accommodate rising temperatures and ever-changing track conditions. In the 15-lap final, Dustin came out with a seventh place finish and Jordan finished just out of the top ten. Although the season is a wrap, there’s no true off-season for Wahl Bros. Racing, as they look ahead and begin work for the 2018 season.
