2017 Wahl Bros. Race Season Launched!
(January 4, 2017) Greenbush, Minnesota – With the new year comes a new race season for Wahl Bros. Racing. Drivers Dustin and Jordan Wahl, along with the crew, put their skills and equipment to the test at Round 1 of the TLR Cup Tour at the Buffalo River Race Park in Glyndon, Minn. last weekend.
Jordan Wahl, pilot of the #747 Polaris, returned to the track without skipping a beat after an injury last year cut his season short. He earned second place finishes in every qualifying round on Friday, setting him up to start as the fourth qualifier in that night’s 20-lap feature. Racing on the ¼ mile banked track was tight and Jordan finished just one position shy of the podium.
As temperatures dropped overnight and wind speeds increased, the team adjusted and Jordan went on to claim a back row starting position in Saturday night’s TLR Cup Tour feature. In the 12-sled field, he rounded out the top ten when the checkered flew and currently sits tenth in TLR Cup Tour points after the first round.
For Dustin Wahl, Friday was spent getting the #74 Polaris completely dialed-in and gauging the competition, which includes several new drivers this season. Starting from the back row in the Friday night feature, Dustin gained several positions to finish eighth in the first final of the season. Saturday was a whole new story, as Dustin went undefeated in all three rounds of qualifying on the track, similar to the one the team tests on back home.
As the number one qualifier he started with the inside line, forcing him to hold it down tight through the first corner – a line most drivers agreed was far from the fastest. He went on to finish eighth after 15 laps and holds the eighth position in TLR Cup Tour points.
Back in the shop, the team is focusing on what’s next: the first USSA Pro Star Racing event of the season and round 2 of the TLR Cup Tour, both taking place this weekend at the Ironwood Snowmobile Olympus in Ironwood, Mich. After that – the World Championship Derby in Eagle River, Wisc.
