Greenbush, Minnesota – (January 31, 2017) The 13th Annual Wausau 525 Snowmobile Championshiptook place last weekend and Wahl Bros. Racing was happy to be a part of the great event. At the facility purpose-built for ice oval racing in Wausau, Wisc., Jordan Wahl competed in Rounds 4 and 5 of the TLR Cup Tour. Dustin Wahl sat the weekend out; taking the time to heal after suffering a concussion at the previous race in Eagle River, Wisc.
A record breaking crowd gathered Saturday as Pro Champ drivers hit the ice for time trials, which would serve as the first round of qualifying as well. Wahl timed in sixth fastest on the large and wide 1/3 mile track. He would go on to earn two very close second place finishes in the remaining qualifying heats of the day. Consistent holeshots were one of the keys to success for the #747 and when the green flag lifted for the 15-lap final, he was the first sled to the corner. He led the first four laps of the race and ran in the top three until the first of two red flags were thrown.
In the staggered restart, he would line up third but thanks to another great holeshot, easily moved into the #2 spot. He held that spot after the second restart with just three laps to go, and with that earned his first podium finish of the season. Watch the podium interview here.
Sunday was another great day for Wahl and the team, as they posted two second place finishes and one fourth in the qualifying rounds that would seed the #747 Jimmy John’s – Wahl Bros. Polaris for the fifth TLR Cup final of the season. Not unlike the final the day before, the 15-lap main event was restarted twice after red flags were thrown. Wahl was running in third until the second red flag, when officials deemed him to be a partial cause of the red flag and restart the final from the second to last position. In the final nine laps of competition, Wahl worked through the pack to finish in sixth.
This Friday and Saturday Jordan will once again be the lone Wahl Bros. Racing driver at the Alexandria Winter Spectacular in Alexandria, Minn, as Dustin is playing it smart and making sure his concussion symptoms are completely gone before returning to competition. Round 6 of the TLR Cup Tour will take place Friday, with the make-up race from Round 2 in Ironwood, Mich. taking place first thing Saturday morning.
